Server and Storage Specialist
Description

Excel Nearshore is looking for a Server and Storage Specialist to be part of our client’s Infrastructure team. You will manage and optimize on-premises and hybrid server/storage environments for medtech operations. Focus on high availability, backups, and scalability to support critical systems like Oracle EBS, Hyperion, and OBIEE, ensuring compliance and minimal downtime. This role contributes to DR testing, automations for year-over-year cost reductions. This is a fully remote and full-time position from Costa Rica, in payroll with benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and troubleshoot on-premises servers, storage arrays, and hypervisors such as VMWare, Hyper-V across PROD/DEV/TEST/DR environments, addressing issues like capacity constraints or failures.
  • Perform regular backups, restores, and data integrity checks, integrating with tools like Rubrik to support RTO/RPO targets (24-72 hours for core apps per DR Plan).
  • Optimize storage performance such as SAN/NAS configurations, RAID levels, deduplication for high-volume data.
  • Collaborate on infrastructure projects, including patching, upgrades, and scalability assessments.
  • Implement ISO 27001 controls and HIPAA-compliant practices in medtech contexts.
  • Monitor systems using tools like SolarWinds, taking corrective actions for overnight failures to minimize business impact.
  • Contribute to AIOps and automations aligned with innovation and optimizations.
  • Assist in DR failover testing and QBR reporting on metrics like uptime and capacity utilization.
  • Provide on-call support for P1 incidents, escalating as needed within SLAs.

Success Metrics

  • System uptime >99.5%; backup success rate >99%; capacity utilization <80%.
  • Contribute to ticket reduction >20% via proactive optimizations; zero compliance violations in audits.
  • Support on-time DR tests and QBR insights; personal CSAT >4.5/5
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Must Have Skills:
    • 5-7 years in server/storage management.
    • Expertise in VMWare ESXi and VCenter, Hyper-V, SAN/NAS (e.g., Dell EMC, HP, Lenovo).
    • Backup tools (Rubrik, Backup Exec).
    • Scripting like PowerShell, Python for automation.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) for nearshore collaboration.
    • Familiarity with medtech regulations (HIPAA, FDA/IMDRF).
  • Nice to Have Skills:
    • Certifications such as VCP (VMWare Certified Professional) or MCSE.
    • Experience with Oracle EBS/Hyperion storage needs.
    • AIOps tools for predictive alerts.
    • ISO 27001 implementation
    • Exposure to hybrid cloud (e.g., AWS/Azure integrations).
