
Excel Nearshore is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join the technology team of a leading global organization in the agricultural technology industry. In this role, you will focus on building and optimizing data-driven solutions that empower growers worldwide through actionable insights derived from soil, weather, and geospatial data.
You’ll collaborate closely with a Data Science team to modernize infrastructure, enhance data workflows, and develop scalable systems for ingesting, processing, and delivering high-impact environmental and agronomic information — including data from sources such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
This is a fully remote and full-time position from Costa Rica, in payroll with benefits.
- Design and implement scalable, cloud-native applications and data pipelines on AWS.
- Develop and maintain services using Python, gRPC, and Metaflow for orchestration and workflow automation.
- Build and optimize PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases for geospatial data analysis and visualization.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to improve deployment and reliability.
- Integrate data from multiple external sources, ensuring quality, performance, and interoperability.
- Contribute to the design of AI agentic workflows, enabling intelligent automation and data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborate closely with Data Science, Product, and Agronomy teams to align technical outcomes with field realities.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Strong proficiency in Python and backend service development.
- Deep understanding of AWS services and Cloud Native design principles.
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS
- Solid knowledge of gRPC, data orchestration tools (e.g., Metaflow, Airflow), and IaC frameworks (e.g., Terraform or CloudFormation).
- Familiarity with GIS concepts, geospatial data processing, and application integration patterns.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in distributed teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Domain expertise in agriculture, agronomy, or environmental sciences.
- Experience integrating weather, soil, and geospatial datasets to improve agricultural outcomes.
- Understanding of how seed and fertilizer companies leverage data to optimize yields and sustainability.
