Data and AI Platform Engineer
Description
Excel Nearshore is looking for a hands-on Data & AI Platform Engineer to help design and evolve our data foundation. This role is for thinking, doing engineers — people who are curious, proactive, and improve systems without waiting for detailed direction. While this mindset is often found in more experienced engineers, we’re open to candidates at different levels who demonstrate strong ownership and judgment. This is a fully remote and full-time position from Costa Rica, in payroll with benefits.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end data pipelines across ingestion, transformation, validation, storage, versioning, and deprecation.
- Design scalable, reusable data pipelines to support multiple products and long-term growth.
- Set and maintain standards for schema design, data quality, lineage, observability, and documentation.
- Build AI-enabled solutions for data matching, anomaly detection, schema drift detection, and validation.
- Proactively simplify, refactor, or retire pipelines to reduce complexity and operational cost.
- Ensure production reliability through monitoring, alerting, and performance optimization.
- Partner with product and analytics teams to align data systems with real business needs.
- Act as a technical owner for critical datasets and pipelines.
Qualifications
- Proven experience building and operating data systems in production
- Comfort working across common data tools and patterns (e.g., SQL, Python, cloud storage, orchestration, batch or streaming pipelines)
- A strong sense of ownership, curiosity, and bias toward action
- Ability to reason about trade-offs, scale, and long-term maintainability.
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud data platforms, modern warehouses/lakehouses, or applied ML for data quality and automation.
